Installing Granite Countertops

Granite is the most popular material for use in kitchen countertops. It is the most popular because it one of the hardest materials available. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive. Even though the cost of granite countertops can be high compared to other materials, it remains the most popular because of its beauty and durability. The beauty and durability of granite offers an appeal that can't be found in other countertop surfaces.

Much of the cost for granite countertops comes from the labor costs. Installing granite countertops is not recommended as a do-it-yourself project for homeowners. Installing granite countertops is best left to expert professionals that perform the difficult task of installing granite. If you are seeking to save money by installing granite yourself, you are just asking for trouble. Installation of granite must be left to professionals who have the correct training and equipment.

Installation Process:

After the granite countertops have been selected, a Caveman Countertops expert installer will measure countertop space and cabinetry to create a template for installation. After the template and measurements have been made, the installer will be able to tell you where the seams will be located. Our installers will attempt to use the least number of seams as possible. Seams, while necessary, can detract from the natural pattern and beauty of the granite. Our installers are excellent craftsmen that will fit these joints and seams in a fashion that makes them less noticeable. Once the template has been made it can be determined if any specialized tools will be needed to cut space for the sink and range.

Before installing the granite can take place, Caveman Countertops will make certain that your countertop space is both level and reinforced to withhold the weight of your new granite. If necessary, we will install metal rods and plywood to the cabinetry to create a strong, level surface with additional support for the sink and range. Creating a level and strong bed for the granite is crucial to prevent the slab of granite from breaking during normal use.

Once these preliminary steps have been made, our Installers will bring the granite slabs to your home for installation. These slabs, depending on their size, can weigh several hundred pounds and must be carried properly to reduce stress to the slab during transportation. If not carried properly, granite slabs can be weakened and crack later from normal use.

Using the template the slab of granite will be cut with a diamond tip saw. The seams of the slabs will be sealed and the edges will be treated to your specifications. Our installer will add any requested trim inlays, such as metallic materials. The entire slab will then be treated and sealed before being polished to a smooth reflective surface.

Our installers will take note of the sink and faucets, electrical outlets, and other objects that may need to be repositioned to make way for the thick slab of granite that will be installed. Our installers will also make certain to re-secure the dishwasher brackets and cooking range to ensure no damage is caused to the newly installed granite countertop.

The expertise required for installing granite countertops demands the expertise of trained professionals. It is not recommended that typical homeowners attempt to install their own granite countertops. Professional installation of granite countertops can prove a valuable and beautiful addition to your home and kitchen.
